In many cases the community is not well informed about the health system and other resources. One of our goals is to connect the community to existing health resources they can access, but unfortunately accessing them often means coming across barriers. LCH created these comics based on our own experiences to inform the community in a fun and entertaining way about barriers when trying to access and use resources and services.
To develop them, we consulted with providers, community leaders and community members to learn, get new and updated information, hear their comments and feedbacks, and to develop our ideas. This process helped us refine our ideas and learn even more about resources and barriers. The educational comic (online and printed) are a tool we use in our workshops we give to the community. Workshop participants actively engage in utilizing the comics by reading them out loud, or acting them out in role plays, and discussing. It's much for exciting for people to learn in such engaging ways than to read large blocks of text. Each comic is full of drawings and everyday everyday conversations that help to clarify our important themes. We've received positive feedback from both the community and providers. People strongly identify with characters in our stories.
