THE SALUD MANUAL
About Us
La Comunidad Habla is a community-based media and advocacy group that oversees the Salud Manual and other aspects of My Community NM. The Salud Manual exists to reduce health disparities for the exceedingly large population of the un/under-insured in New Mexico. Specifically, this projects addresses health access by creating and building upon this online and print resource AND providing education and outreach about using it. A huge part of our project is to train community leaders to build their technical and advocacy capacities and then pass that onto others. They developed the initial designs and concept for this this website and the comics from their point-of-view and they provide the expertise needed at reaching their fellow community members. Community media like this is a unique and engaging way to address health issues. We hope you enjoy and find useful what we have created so far!
Hello My name is Judith Velo and I have collaborated with the project from January 2006 until now. I'm from Chihuahua, Chihuahua. Through this project, I have learned many of the health needs that my community has. I've also learned about advocacy and learned from the experiences I've had helping others organizations. This project has helped me to develop additional skills to be able to help my community.
Sonia Medina. I was born in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. I have lived in Albuquerque N.M. for 9 years. I have been participating in the Salud Manual project since January 2006. I hope I can continue in this project. I enjoy creating the materials and information for the needs of our community. I keep learning and growing as community leader.
Hello my name is Azucena Molinar and I am from Namiquipa, Chihuahua. I have 5 children and one granddaughter. The Salud Manual project is a wonderful thing that happened in my life. I personally have greatly from it. Through it I can do advocacy with families who come to me looking for resources or health information and in this way we overcome many barriers that exist in the system and with so many agencies. I hope this great project grows more and more and we can continue to help families with their needs.

My name is Veronica Salazar and I'm from Mexico City. I've lived in Albuquerque now for 5 years. I wanted to be a part of this project to be able to help my community. I'm just learning at this point and everything that I do learn I want to share with you. I'm an immigrant to the U.S. just like many of you using our site. I also did not know about health resources like you can find on this site. This is an interesting site y it's easy to use. I hope it's a helpful resource for you.
My name is Sara Nelson and I'm the Project Coordinator. It has been an exciting challenge for all of us to bring you this resource and our workshops; we do it because we see a need to connect the uninsured community to resources and information. The work that our leaders (community media health workers) have done on this project is admirable. Now they are not only comfortable with technology but also with public speaking and talking with the larger community about health barriers and ways to overcome them. We look for your support so this project can continue and improve. Check in regularly!!
Andrea Plaza. I'm a part of the SALUD project because I believe health care is a Human right, regardless of language, where you come from or how much you can pay. I believe the community has a role to play in educating each other about our rights to quality health services, and that more education will lead to better opportunities. The SALUD media techs are a sample of the wealth of knowledge and talent our community has to off. They are an inspiration for all of us who believe positive change is possible.
My name is Pablo. I'm originally from Mexico. I decided to come to the US to improve my life and that of my family. There are many families like mine that have done this. It's not easy but it is great that there are groups that provide support to immigrants, especially immigrants that don't know their rights. In this way we can become one family.
